Kimberly Monk knew from the age of 3 that she wanted to dedicate her life to horses. She was first introduced to dressage 1981 in England when she went to school at the Moat house in Bendnden Kent England. Passing the British horse society's Horse masters, assistant instructor exam and instructor exam she returned to California.
Answering an ad in the CDS dressage letters looking for dressage riders. Monk was hired for the Kingdom of the dancing stallions show in Anaheim California which featured 36 Andalusian Stallions. The two-year span was a great learning experience for upper level training. Kim would work over time for no money just for the experience and working hand in hand with Spanish riding school masters. Kim also studied under Edith Evans-who was the first woman to earn a professional bullfighter's license-Only after one year of employment Monk learned every act in the show Including Edith Evans personal act, Monk was put in management position of the horses and back stage before the age of 20.
She was struck by the precision, discipline and beauty of dressage and Dressage became the guiding force in Kim life and for over 22 years she has vigorously pursued her dream in this sport. In 1985 while Kim was a pony club instructor in San Juan capistrano. Medieval times approached monk to help train their horses and open there first castle in the USA. For over two years during the day Kim taught Juniors in San Juan Capistrano Ca. and drove to Anaheim to performed in two shows a night.
After many shows and five rose parades later Monk Decided to focus on her competitive career. Kim was now clinicing with Hilda Gurney and her stallion Temerario VII was ready to compete at first level. Monks Stallion Temerario VII competed and won Regionally and USDF all breed awards from first level to Intermediate II. At age 19 Temerario VII now a Grand prix stallion was retired from competition in 1999 and is a sound Breeding stallion in Colorado. Kim's education in dressage has been greatly influenced most significantly by her trainer and coach two-time Olympian Hilda Gurney. She has also been fortunate to Clinic with Horsemanship expert Pat Parelli and Spanish riding school master Fran Rockavanski and well known international instructors such as Harry Boldt, Stephen Kieswetter and Peter Borggreve.
Kim has trained and competed a number of horses through FEI levels during her career and has helped many Young professorial, Adult amateur & Junior riders receive their USDF bronze, Silver rider medals and win their Championship dreams. In the past few years Kim has had successful FEI Junior team members and members of the region 7 North American young rider team.
Now in 2008-2009 Kim is attending the L program for judging, Travels frequently to Germany for education and horse buying trips, Is a registered FEI competitor and teaching / training at an exceptional FEI barn in Bonsall and Fallbrook area.
